Before the 2016 election, many friends of mine were getting sick of the constant barrage of politically charged posts on Facebook, so I decided to write something to make them better! HotSwap is a Chrome extension that identifies political posts and swaps them for a gif of puppies. It also adds in a link to register to vote, just in case.
Philanthrofeed
After the 2016 election, I found myself searching for more meaningful ways to use technology for good. Over the span of a weekend, my friend and I created, developed, and released another Chrome extension called Philanthrofeed. Philanthrofeed searches your Facebook feed for political or topical posts, and adds a banner recommending a related charity to donate to, right from your Facebook feed. We had plans to integrate it with a charitable donation API or Facebook’s donation system, but were never able to add much more to it.
